Final Year Project

I recently finished and handed in my final year project to complete my degree!

I worked with ASP.NET MVC using Visual Studio 2008 and SQL Server 2008, technologies which I had not used previously to this project. In order to create a Mitigating Circumstances System. The system allows lecturers to record communications they may have with students, upload documentation, grant assignment extensions, create meetings which can be added into Microsoft Outlook (This is not functional on my server but I have left the commented code in my source code), and export reports as Adobe PDF files for end of year student grade reviews.

A live deployment of my project can be found at http://mcs.jonathanstowell.com feel free to login using guest/password

The source code can be downloaded here

My research has mainly focused around web development discussing topics such as the differences between traditional and web development, how this impacts on the suitability of web development methodologies, why usability is important in web systems to attract and retain a customer base, and how a Model View Controller architecture may or may not benefit a web system.

If you are looking for more information on MVC and inparticularly ASP.NET MVC I suggest you check out my Technical Design and Implementation Chapters from my research. If you are looking to learn ASP.NET MVC and are a beginner I would recommend Wrox’s Professional ASP.NET MVC http://www.wrox.com/WileyCDA/Section/id-321793.html although with the release of ASP.NET MVC 2.0 a couple of months ago there will be an updated version being released next month.
